An independent psychological evaluation is a comprehensive, objective assessment conducted by a licensed psychologist who has no prior treatment relationship with the individual being evaluated. These evaluations provide an unbiased professional opinion to answer specific referral questions, clarify diagnoses, assess psychological functioning, and assist with important personal, legal, educational, or occupational decisions.
Independent evaluations are frequently requested by individuals, attorneys, physicians, employers, schools, insurance companies, and government agencies when an impartial assessment is needed. Following the evaluation, a detailed written report provides objective findings, diagnostic impressions when appropriate, and evidence-based opinions and recommendations.
